Ilmur & Sjór – Raw ingredients, niche perfumery for true connoisseurs of Iceland

One of the newest additions to the Rammagerðin store is a perfumery- Ilmur og Sjór. Behind the brand are Yann and Nicolas. Nicolas is the perfumer—the “nose” behind the fragrances—while Yann leads the company’s financial and marketing work, the website, and all the less glamorous but essential details. Together, they make a great team.

Nicolas Brittan originally comes from the United States, but he has been living in Iceland for many years. He worked as a software developer, his fascination with nature and fragrance eventually led him into perfume creation.

He began making perfumes because he was searching for a scent that felt raw, honest, and true to its name. When he couldn’t find anything that matched what he was looking for, he decided to create his own fragrances.

Nicholas is the man behind the creation of the perfumes, and so far we can enjoy four fragrances from him. He definitely does not follow perfume trends—his taste is distinctive and very sophisticated. For nature lovers who enjoy admiring the scents of Icelandic nature, his fragrances are truly for you.

The Discovery Kit is something that can truly be an eye-opener. It offers an immersive fragrance journey, allowing you to experience some of the most unique Icelandic scents in a single set.

No. 9 Grassið

Number 9, The Grass. Fresh and refreshing, yet there is something about this fragrance that makes you want to keep smelling it—like freshly cut grass. But it’s not just grass; it’s a meadow. Notes of angelica and wild rose give this fragrance a distinct character. For those who love fresh, floral scents, it is definitely a great choice.

No. 33 Mossin

Mossin No. 33.
Grounded and atmospheric, this fragrance opens with the deep, green scent of Icelandic moss and wet earth. Soft floral touches of jasmine and angelica add balance and lightness, giving the composition depth without losing its natural character. Mossin No. 33 feels calm, raw, and quietly elegant—ideal for those who are drawn to earthy, nature-driven scents with a subtle floral edge.

No.17 Reykjaskógur

Smoky and deeply atmospheric, Reykjaskógur No. 17 opens with the dry warmth of cedarwood and oud, layered with the dark, resinous character of birch tar. Arctic thyme brings a subtle herbal freshness that lifts the composition and adds contrast. The result is a bold yet balanced fragrance—evoking charred wood, open landscapes, and quiet northern forests.

No. 16 Skógarbotn

Soft, resinous, and comforting, Skógarbotn No. 16 captures the feeling of the forest floor. Elemi heart and cedarwood form a warm, woody base, while amber adds depth and a gentle sweetness. Dried fir needles bring a crisp, natural edge, grounding the fragrance in the stillness of the woods.
