Bjarni Viðar
Bjarni Viðar Sigurðsson made a bold career change in 1996, leaving banking to pursue ceramics. He studied at Aarhus Kunstakademi in Denmark, and after graduating in 2000, opened his own workshop and studio called Baghuis Atelieret. He returned to Iceland in 2007 where he is now based.
He works with a combination of moulds, innovative glaze recipes, and hand painting techniques to create earthy ceramic pieces, firing them multiple times to build up colour and texture. Since 2010 he has incorporated ash from the Eyjafjallajökull volcano into his work, literally embedding a piece of Iceland into each piece.
